AI Usage Policy

1. Overview — What AI Is Used For

Law Hired integrates AI to help lawyers work more efficiently, help clients understand the legal marketplace, and improve the overall quality of service delivered through the Platform. AI is used across several discrete features, each with a defined and limited scope described in Section 3 of this Policy.

At a high level, AI on Law Hired assists with the following categories of tasks:

• Estimating legal fees based on matter type, jurisdiction, and market data.

• Surfacing relevant legal research, statutes, and secondary sources to assist lawyer review.

• Enabling lawyers to create an AI-powered assistant ("AI Clone") that can respond to prospective client inquiries on the lawyer's behalf.

• Aggregating anonymized firm-level performance and market intelligence ("Firm Intelligence").

• Assisting lawyers in preparing for depositions by organizing and surfacing relevant case facts.

• Generating draft documents (contracts, briefs, letters) based on lawyer-provided templates and inputs.

All AI features operate within defined boundaries. They are designed to augment — not replace — lawyer judgment, client autonomy, or the formal attorney-client relationship.

2. What AI Is NOT

Understanding the limits of AI on Law Hired is as important as understanding its capabilities. The following are express disclaimers that govern all AI features on the Platform:

• AI outputs are NOT legal advice. Nothing generated by any AI feature on Law Hired constitutes legal advice, a legal opinion, or a legal strategy recommendation.

• AI interactions are NOT protected by attorney-client privilege. Communications with or through AI features — including the AI Clone — are not privileged unless and until a formal engagement agreement exists between the client and a specific licensed attorney.

• AI does NOT replace lawyer professional judgment. A lawyer's duty to exercise independent professional judgment under applicable Rules of Professional Conduct is non-delegable. AI is a drafting and research aid; final judgment always belongs to the lawyer.

• AI is NOT a substitute for a qualified attorney. Clients must engage a licensed attorney for actual legal representation. AI features are not designed to, and cannot, replace counsel.

• AI-generated documents are NOT ready-to-file legal documents. All drafts produced by AI must be reviewed, revised, and approved by a licensed attorney before use.

• AI does NOT guarantee confidentiality of inputs in the same manner as privileged communications. See Section 4 for details on data handling.

3. AI Features Described

3.1 Smart Fee Estimation

Smart Fee Estimation uses anonymized historical billing data from the Platform, publicly available legal market data, matter type, jurisdiction, case complexity signals, and lawyer profile information to generate a suggested fee range for a given legal matter. This is an estimate only. It is not a binding quote, a guarantee of cost, or a reflection of any specific lawyer's billing practices. Actual fees are determined solely by the lawyer-client engagement agreement.

3.2 Legal Research Assistant

The Legal Research Assistant uses large language model (LLM) technology to surface potentially relevant statutes, regulations, case law summaries, and secondary legal sources based on a lawyer's query. This feature is intended to accelerate preliminary research, not to replace comprehensive legal research using primary sources. AI research outputs may omit controlling authority, mischaracterize holdings, cite non-existent cases ("hallucinations"), or reflect law that has since been amended or overruled. Lawyers must independently verify every citation through authoritative legal databases (e.g., Westlaw, Lexis+) before relying on any AI-generated research.

3.3 AI Clone

AI Clone allows a lawyer to configure an AI assistant trained on that lawyer's approved biographical information, practice area descriptions, FAQ responses, and communication style preferences. The AI Clone may respond to prospective client inquiries on the lawyer's behalf during off-hours or high-volume periods. AI Clone is subject to separate consent requirements described in Section 5. The AI Clone cannot give legal advice, provide case strategy, or enter into any engagement agreement on behalf of the lawyer. All substantive legal questions must be escalated to the lawyer.

3.4 Firm Intelligence

Firm Intelligence provides law firms and individual practitioners with aggregated, anonymized analytics about Platform activity, market trends, practice area demand, fee benchmarking, and competitive positioning. Firm Intelligence outputs are based on aggregated data and are intended for business planning purposes only. They do not constitute market research, investment advice, or guarantees of business outcomes.

3.5 Deposition Prep

The Deposition Prep feature assists lawyers by organizing case facts, witness information, and document exhibits to suggest potential deposition question frameworks. All suggested questions are preliminary drafts. The lawyer must independently assess the legal strategy, evidentiary admissibility, and relevance of any suggested line of questioning. This feature does not assess privilege, spoliation risk, or any other evidentiary issue.

3.6 Document Drafting

Document Drafting uses AI to generate first-draft contracts, demand letters, briefs, motions, and other legal documents based on templates, user-provided inputs, and matter details. All AI-generated documents are drafts only. They must be reviewed, substantially edited if necessary, and formally approved by a licensed attorney before transmission or filing. Law Hired is not responsible for any legal document submitted without proper attorney review.

4. Data Used to Power AI

Law Hired's AI features are powered by a combination of Platform-generated data and third-party AI model APIs. The following describes what data may be used and how it is handled:

• Aggregated and anonymized billing and matter data from the Platform to inform fee estimates and market intelligence.

• Lawyer-approved profile information, FAQs, and communication templates to train and configure AI Clone responses.

• User-submitted query text (legal research queries, document drafting inputs, deposition prep inputs) processed by third-party LLM APIs under data processing agreements that prohibit use of submitted data for model training.

• Case metadata (matter type, jurisdiction, case stage) used to contextualize AI outputs.

What we do NOT feed into AI models:

• Attorney-client privileged communications or case strategy discussions.

• Confidential client personal data (PII) beyond what is minimally required for the specific AI feature.

• Completed legal work product (e.g., final briefs, settlement agreements) without explicit lawyer opt-in.

• Financial account numbers, Social Security numbers, or government-issued ID data.

Law Hired uses commercially reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect data processed through AI features. Third-party AI providers used by Law Hired are bound by data processing agreements compliant with applicable law. See our Privacy Policy and Data Processing Agreement for full details.

5. AI Clone Consent

The AI Clone feature involves specific consent obligations for both the lawyer configuring the Clone and the clients who may interact with it.

5.1 Lawyer Consent

Lawyers must affirmatively opt in to the AI Clone feature by completing a separate AI Clone Consent Agreement, which is presented at setup. By enabling AI Clone, the lawyer:

• Authorizes Law Hired to use their approved profile content and communication templates to configure the AI assistant.

• Acknowledges that the AI Clone responds only within the scope of pre-approved content and cannot provide legal advice.

• Accepts responsibility for reviewing AI Clone interactions and ensuring that escalated matters receive timely human lawyer attention.

• Agrees to comply with any applicable state bar ethics rules regarding the disclosure of AI use in client communications.

5.2 Client Disclosure and Right to Know

Clients interacting with a lawyer's AI Clone are entitled to know they may be communicating with an AI system. Law Hired requires that every AI Clone interaction includes a clear disclosure at the outset, such as: "You are chatting with [Lawyer Name]'s AI assistant, not the lawyer directly. This is not legal advice." Lawyers may not configure AI Clone to misrepresent itself as a human attorney. Clients have the right to request a direct human response at any time, and lawyers must honor that request within a reasonable time.

5.3 Disabling AI Clone

Lawyers may disable AI Clone at any time through their account settings. Upon disabling, the AI Clone will immediately cease responding to new inquiries. Historical AI Clone interaction logs are retained per our standard data retention schedule.

6. Accuracy and Reliability Limitations

AI systems, including the large language models powering Law Hired's features, have known and material limitations. Users must understand these limitations before relying on any AI output:

• Hallucinations: AI models can generate plausible-sounding but entirely fabricated information, including citations to cases that do not exist, statutes with incorrect text, or authority from wrong jurisdictions. Never cite an AI-generated case without verifying it in an authoritative legal database.

• Outdated information: AI models have training data cutoff dates and may not reflect recent statutory changes, new case law, regulatory updates, or court rule amendments.

• Jurisdictional errors: AI may apply law from one jurisdiction to a matter governed by another jurisdiction's law. Always specify and verify the applicable jurisdiction.

• Contextual misunderstanding: AI may misunderstand nuanced legal facts, ambiguous instructions, or complex multi-party scenarios. Outputs require careful human review.

• Overconfidence: AI outputs are often expressed with confident language regardless of actual accuracy. A confident-sounding output is not a guarantee of correctness.

• Bias: AI models may reflect biases present in their training data. Law Hired does not warrant that AI outputs are free from bias.

Law Hired does not warrant the accuracy, completeness, timeliness, or fitness for any purpose of any AI-generated content. Use of AI outputs is at the user's own risk.

7. Lawyer Professional Responsibility

Lawyers using AI features on Law Hired retain full professional responsibility for all work product, advice, and client communications, regardless of the degree to which AI tools assisted in producing them. The following professional responsibility principles apply:

• Competence (ABA Model Rule 1.1): Lawyers have a duty of competence, which includes understanding the benefits and risks of technology — including AI — used in providing legal services. The ABA's 2012 Comment 8 to Rule 1.1 expressly includes keeping abreast of changes in the law and its practice, including the benefits and risks of relevant technology.

• Supervision (ABA Model Rule 5.3): Lawyers are responsible for ensuring that non-lawyer assistance, which includes AI-generated outputs, conforms to the lawyer's professional obligations. AI outputs must be supervised and reviewed.

• Communication (ABA Model Rule 1.4): Lawyers must communicate with clients about how AI tools are used in their representation, to the extent material to the representation.

• Confidentiality (ABA Model Rule 1.6): Lawyers must take reasonable precautions when using third-party technology services, including AI tools. Lawyers should not input sensitive client information into AI tools without evaluating the confidentiality implications.

• Candor toward tribunals (ABA Model Rule 3.3): Lawyers must not make false statements of law or fact to a court. Submitting AI-generated case citations without verification violates this duty.

Law Hired does not provide legal ethics advice. Lawyers are responsible for consulting their applicable state bar rules and ethics opinions regarding AI use in legal practice.

8. Prohibited AI Uses

The following uses of AI features on Law Hired are expressly prohibited:

• Creating or distributing deepfakes, synthetic media, or any AI-generated content that misrepresents a real person's identity, statements, or appearance.

• Configuring AI Clone or any AI feature to misrepresent itself as a human attorney or to conceal the fact that the user is interacting with AI.

• Submitting AI-generated content — including case citations, legal arguments, or document drafts — to any court, tribunal, or government agency without independent attorney review and verification.

• Using AI features to generate content that is false, misleading, defamatory, or designed to deceive clients, opposing counsel, or courts.

• Inputting another person's confidential information into AI tools without their knowledge and consent.

• Using AI features to engage in the unauthorized practice of law, including allowing an AI Clone to provide legal advice to clients without lawyer oversight.

• Attempting to reverse-engineer, extract, or circumvent any AI model or feature for purposes outside normal Platform use.

• Using AI features in any manner that violates applicable law, court rules, or bar ethics rules.

Violation of these prohibitions may result in immediate account suspension, termination, and referral to bar authorities or law enforcement as appropriate.

9. How to Report AI Errors

Law Hired takes AI accuracy and safety seriously. If you encounter an AI output that is factually incorrect, legally misleading, potentially harmful, or otherwise problematic, please report it promptly so we can investigate and improve our systems.

To report an AI error or concern:

• Email us at legal@lawhired.com with the subject line "AI Error Report."

• Include in your report: your account email, the AI feature involved, the date and time of the output, a description of the error, and (if possible) a copy or screenshot of the AI output.

• For urgent matters involving potential harm to a client or court submission of incorrect AI content, mark your email "URGENT — AI Error."

We review all AI error reports and use them to improve our systems. However, submission of a report does not create any legal obligation on the part of Law Hired or constitute an acknowledgment of liability.

10. AI Policy Updates

Law Hired may update this AI Usage Policy from time to time as AI technology evolves, as new features are introduced, or as applicable law or professional responsibility guidance changes. When we make material changes, we will:

• Update the "Effective Date" and "Last Reviewed" date at the top of this Policy.

• Send an email notification to all registered users at least 14 days before the updated Policy takes effect.

• Display an in-app notice informing users of the update.

Continued use of any AI feature after the updated Policy's effective date constitutes your acceptance of the changes. If you do not agree with the updated Policy, you must discontinue use of all AI features and contact us at legal@lawhired.com if you wish to discuss your options.
